Law And Business Enterprises Worldwide, S.L., of Madrid, Spain, has been found guilty of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking for attempting to grab the domain labe.com from its current registrant and owner, Rada Ann Labe, an American real estate broker who registered her domain in 1998. The company tried to invoke trademark registrations it obtained in Spain in 2010, arguments which were rejected outright by a single-member panel at the World Intellectual Property Organization. Antony Gold found RDNH against the Spanish legal and investment firm on May 27, 2022.
In issuing his ruling, Gold wrote that the complainant and its attorneys appeared completely unaware of how the domain name system works. The panelist also singled out the complainant’s trademark argument, noting it provided completely inaccurate information about the duration of the trademark registrations.
