Case Number: D2022-0945
Complainant: Reza IP Holdings LLC
Represented by: Dennemeyer & Associates S.A.
Reza IP Holdings LLC, the United States holding company in the family of French jewelry designer Alexandre Reza, has been found guilty of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking, with a dissenting opinion, by a three-member panel of the World Intellectual Property Organization. The majority of the panel found Reza IP Holdings attempted to use the UDRP process to take the domain, reza.com, from its current owner, Taha Alireza, which is written as Ali Reza in Arabic. The panel handed up its ruling on June 28, 2022.
The panel noted that while the Alexandre Reza name had some renown, Taha Alireza did not appear to have registered the domain with the intent to target the Alexandre Reza trademark or Reza name, regarding the jewelry industry. One panelist disagreed with this opinion. Nonetheless, the majority panel concluded that Reza IP Holdings had, in fact, abused the UDRP proceeding.
