Dutch Cybersecurity Firm Found Guilty Of RDNH Trying To Grab WebSec.com

Case Number: D2023-0819

Complainant: WebSec Holdings, B.V.

Represented by: Solace Law

WebSec Holdings, B.V., of the Netherlands, has been found guilty of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking by an arbitration panel at the World Intellectual Property Organization. A three-member panel at WIPO found WebSec Holdings had acted in bad faith bringing a UDRP complaint to transfer the domain name websec.com from its current owner, who acquired the domain on the aftermarket in 2016. The domain, itself, was originally registered in 2002.

WebSec Holdings had attempted to use recent trademark applications and approvals, both in the United States and Europe, as evidence it had accrued rights in the domain. That argument was rejected by the panel, which handed up its RDNH ruling on May 1, 2023.
