Brazilian Company Hit With RDNH Trying To Wrestle Mangels.com Via UDRP

Case Number: D2024-2275

Complainant: Mangels Industrial S.A.

Represented by: Crepaldi Advogados Associados

Mangels Industrial, S.A., a Brazilian manufacturing company specializing in steel cylinders and steel galvanizing, has been found guilty of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking in connection with its attempt to use the UDRP process to force the transfer of the domain mangels.com. A three-member panel of the World Intellectual Property Organization handed up the ruling of RDNH on August 19, 2024.

The panel, composed of members Steven Maier, Jonathan Agmon and Matthew Kennedy, noted in its ruling that Mangels Industrial once owned the domain, but lost  ownership.

“In the view of the Panel,” the ruling reads, “the Complaint discloses no reasonable grounds to allege that the Respondent registered and had used the disputed domain name in bad faith. Instead, it appears to the Panel that, having failed to re-register the disputed domain name, and having had its offers to repurchase it for sums in the region of USD 950 rejected, the Complainant elected to bring the proceeding in an attempt to obtain the disputed domain name.”
